MEDIA RELEASE: Today (24 November 2015) supporters and participants from The Alliance Trust Cateran Yomp, an annual Perthshire endurance event raising funds for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity gathered in Edinburgh’s Archer’s Hall to launch the 2016 event.

The Alliance Trust Cateran Yomp has raised a total of £1.8 million for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and The Alliance Trust Foundation since the event was set up 5 years ago.

Katherine Garrett-Cox, Chief Executive of the Alliance Trust announced the new Ambassador for next summer’s charity event as Micky Yule, a former soldier who lost both his legs in Afghanistan and is now a professional para-powerlifter.

After his life changing accident, The Soldiers’ Charity helped with his recovery by awarding Micky a number of grants to buy professional weightlifting equipment to start training in his garage.
From there, Edinburgh born Micky went on to compete in last years Commonwealth Games and is currently in training for the Rio 2016 Paralympics with Team GB.

Unable to attend the launch because of competition commitments , Micky Yule sent a video message from the 2015 IPC Powerlifting European Open Championships in Eger, Hungary, encouraging people to sign up for the event. “Im training hard to reach my goals and I hope you are too. Im looking forward to cheering you on and seeing you out on those hills next summer.”

Micky will attend the Cateran Yomp event in Blairgowrie on June 11 2016 , a few months before he leaves to compete in the international games in Brazil.

Major General Martin Rutledge, Chief Executive, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity also spoke, thanking those that had taken part in the 2015 event and for supporting the charity. He shared the positive news that a record breaking amount of people have signed up for the 2016 Yomp so far.

A number of people were commended by Katherine Garrett-Cox for their outstanding commitment to the 2015 Alliance Trust Cateran Yomp including William Grant & Sons Distillers, Perth & Kinross Council, HSBC and ING.  ING were the Top Fundraising Team raising over £33,000 for the charity.

The Fastest Mixed Team for the 4th year running was Tim and Jackie Hellbron from Dundee who challenged people to come forward and take the title from them.

Katherine Garrett-Cox competed in this years event finishing the bronze distance, personally raising £24,500.
